Who Is King Salomon? His Life, Wisdom & Legacy
Every great tradition begins with someone who dared to gather wisdom for the benefit of everyone who would come after them. In the lineage carried today by the Modern Mystery School — and taught locally in Prague — that person is King Salomon.
The Historical King Salomon
The Hebrew Bible remembers King Salomon as the son of King David, the third king of Israel, and the builder of the First Temple in Jerusalem — an achievement so vast in scale and ambition that it defined an era. He is best known for one gift above all others: wisdom. When offered anything he wished by God, Salomon asked not for wealth or long life, but for an understanding heart to govern his people wisely. Tradition credits him with the authorship of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Songs — three books that still shape how people think about practical living, meaning, and love thousands of years later.
His reign, traditionally placed in the 10th century BCE, is remembered as a golden age of peace, prosperity, and diplomacy. The visit of the Queen of Sheba, who travelled a great distance to test his wisdom with hard questions and left in awe of what she found, has become one of history's most enduring images of two great minds meeting in mutual respect.
The Seed of a Living Lineage
Beyond the historical record, King Salomon holds a deeper place in the mystery school tradition. The Modern Mystery School teaches that King Salomon established the greatest singular temple ever built, and that he gathered to it the head shamans, prophets, oracles, healers, medicine people, and alchemists of his known world. Rather than keeping their traditions separate, he brought them together to study as one body of knowledge — an extraordinary act of unity between paths that might otherwise have remained isolated from each other.
That gathering, the school teaches, became the seed of what is now called the Lineage of King Salomon: a line of spiritual keys and teachings handed down directly from teacher to student, generation after generation, for more than 3,000 years. It is one of the reasons lineage matters so much in authentic mystery school work — it is the unbroken energy and purity that connects a modern initiate in Prague to the beginning of time. You can read more about how this unbroken chain is understood and preserved on our Lineage page.
In 1997, Gudni Gudnason, one of the lineage's senior key holders, brought these teachings publicly into the modern world for the first time in living memory, founding what is now the Modern Mystery School. Today the lineage is carried forward by the Third Order and a wider circle of dedicated teachers across more than fifty countries — including here, in Prague, where Guide Radu Coman continues the same work of passing sacred knowledge from heart to heart.
Why His Story Still Matters
What makes King Salomon's story so important is not simply that he was wise, but what he chose to do with his wisdom. He did not hoard it. He built a temple, gathered the world's healers under one roof, and left behind a system capable of shaping the prophesized 1000 years of world peace for humanity. A system based on activation, initiation and transformation. His legacy tells us that the highest spiritual attainment is not measured by how far someone withdraws from ordinary life, but by how generously they bring their light back into it.
That is the same invitation extended to every seeker today. The Empower Thyself initiation, the first doorway into this lineage for most students, is described by the school as entering the initiate into "the ancient lineage of King Salomon" — not as a historical curiosity, but as a living, practical relationship with wisdom meant to be used.
An Invitation, Not a Museum Piece
It would be easy to treat a 3,000-year-old lineage as something distant — an artifact to admire from behind glass. But the whole point of an unbroken chain of teacher to student is that it was never meant to stop. Every person who receives these teachings becomes, in some small way, a keeper of the same flame that once lit Salomon's temple.
If the story of a king who chose wisdom and serving God above all else, and who gathered and unified the world's healers, speaks to something in you, we would be glad to welcome you.
